RIP

Today, the world of part-time jobs lost one of its treasures. At roughly 8am this morning, Danica Faith Mercer, loving daughter, devoted sister, and loyal friend passed on after a short, but vigilant fight against unemployment.


For a time it seemed as though this land of professional wandering would keep Danica as an inhabitant forever. For 5 months she struggled, going from part-time job to part-time job. Enduring children, classrooms, italian food and hateful remarks from “loved ones” who tried to keep her down, telling her: “you are chasing after something that you are never going to attain” ..."You don't know what it really is to be disciplined”...“Anything that is work or could be work isn't anything you want to do."..."You somehow think that you can do music and get a full time 9-5 job with benefits with a music degree... Well...it is time for a little reality”

After such struggles many may have chosen this world over a better one. But not Danica. No. Being the, dare I say, disciplined person that she is, Danica ventured on, taking only a short break in exile from her Nashville home. After a month long hiatus, Danica returned to the land of employment suffering and followed a lead she had acquired the week before her time away.

And so began the beginning of the end.

From here the end came quickly. She fought valiantly, and she prevailed. In her final moments she even came out victorious against Sallie Mae, (Danica’s lifelong nemesis), when she realized that her consolidation had in fact not yet been applied to her account. A phone call and a few faxes later Danica triumphed in her new monthly payment, now roughly $300 less.

Today Danica has left our world behind to venture on to a better place. To her home: Employmentville. Benefits and all.

A memorial service was held this evening. Ice Cream was served, and her tombstone, as a sentiment to life’s irony reads: “It’s time to grow up.”

Danica is survived by numerous friends and family who will hopefully succeed in their own battle against unemployment soon.
