Joy Maxwell, a student who took a semester off to battle melanoma, died April 1, 2004, from complications. She was 20.

“Her energy for life and her love of her friends and family made a significant impact on our lives,” said Gordon Golsan, vice president for student development. “We know that she is now made complete with Christ. Her faith was real in every way.”

Joy, a resident of Lake Elsinore, Calif., attended PLNU during 2002 and 2003. She reenrolled for this spring 2004 before having to leave school for medical reasons. Friends at PLNU are planning to gather in the Ellipse Chapel Tuesday, April 6, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. to pray and to remember Joy. Also, Joy's friends are planning a fundraiser in her honor April 24. Funds will be given to a "Relay for Life" team named in her honor.
